General
PreFiles.com is a file hosting provider. We offer online storage and remote backup capacity together with straightforward uploading and downloading tools. With PreFiles.com you can host files, images, video and audio in the same place.
Whenever you need to send a file that is too large for e-mail, PreFiles.com can help. If you need secure remote storage capacity for off-site backups, PreFiles.com offers solutions for you. And if you want to reach your own data from a variety of computers without carrying a USB stick around, this is a perfect way of doing so.
No, because not everyone wishes to share the files they upload with everyone else. This way PreFiles.com can be used to share files with anyone you choose to, as well as to keep them for yourself as a backup or to download from anywhere in the world.
Account & Security
Open the sign-in page and use the "Forgot password?" link. We send a reset link to the e-mail address on your account, so make sure that address still reaches you.
Your e-mail address and your full name can be changed at any time from Account settings. The username is generated once when the account is created and then stays fixed, so links that already point at your account keep working.
Security lock blocks every destructive action on the account — deleting files or folders, and closing the account itself. If you really mean to delete something, turn the lock off first in Account settings.
Uploads & Storage
All kinds: from your party photos to an important document. The only restrictions are pornography, nudity, sexual images, any kind of offensive material and, of course, copyrighted material. Please refer to our Terms of Service for more detail.
If you were signed in, delete it from My files. If you uploaded as a guest, use the delete link that was shown to you right after the upload finished. Lost that link? Wait until the file expires and it is removed automatically.
Files on a free account are removed after a period of inactivity, counted from the last download. Files on a paid account are kept for as long as the account stays active. The exact limits for each plan are on the pricing page.
Downloads & Sharing
Yes. Open My files, pick the file and set a password on it. Anyone opening the link then has to type that password before the download starts, and the file shows a small lock so they know one is needed.
The wait is what keeps free downloads sustainable for everybody. A premium account skips the timer entirely: downloads start straight away and there is no limit on how many files you take.
No. Hotlinking is not allowed on any kind of file uploaded to our servers — share the download page link instead. If a file breaks our rules, tell us through the abuse report form.
Billing & Plans
Every method currently enabled is listed on the pricing page — you pick one at checkout. Your plan starts as soon as the payment is confirmed.
Your account simply goes back to the free plan. Nothing is deleted at the moment it expires: your files stay where they are, but free-account limits apply again from then on. Renewing at any time restores the premium limits.
In some cases, yes. The conditions and the time limit are written out in our Refund Policy. To ask for one, contact us with the details of the payment.
API Documents
Everything you can do on the website you can also do over HTTP: upload, list,
rename, move and share your files. Every call takes your API key and answers
in JSON. The full reference — a curl example and the exact
response for every call — lives on the
API page; the index below jumps straight
into it.
Sign in and open Account settings — your key is shown there, and you can generate a new one at any time. Treat it like a password: anyone holding it can act on your account, so never put it in a public page or a shared repository.
It takes two calls: first ask which server is ready, then post the file to that server. Uploading straight from another URL is one call instead — see Remote URL upload.
Yes. The API is another door into the same account, not a way around it: file size, storage and download limits are exactly the ones your plan gives you on the website.
